Refurbished Gsm Unlocked Cell Phones

I Live in Jamaica, should i buy an unlocked Blackberry 8800 off of ebay or is that risky?

I’m seeing a good deal on the blackberry 8800 on ebay and I am thinking about buying it. But my friends tell me that its never safe to buy cell phones off ebay because the seller may give me a refurbished phone which may not be able to work on my GSM carrier back home

I am in Jamaica and I ALWAYS buy my phone on eBay, whether locked or unlocked. if it is unlocked, i go back on eBay and buy “unlock code” for the phone, available for about 9.99 up, depending on the type of phone.

I have purchased all types, NEW, USED and refurbished, I have no problem when any of them.

it saves me a bag of money buying stuff on eBay. I am an eBay addict.

You have to ensure that you read the item description, if it is stated as a GSM phone then it will work on Digicel or LIME networks. The fact that it is refurbished does not have anything to do with whether it will work or not. Refurbished means that the phone was reconditioned to a like new state.
