Instant messaging for business purposes?

In my new work of my duties is to improve processes. I am currently investigating the feasibility to use instant messaging at work. Can you help by answering some questions I have? * Do you currently do this, and if so, What are your thoughts about it? * What service use – Yahoo, AIM, WebEx or something else? * Do you think that increases their level of productivity? * What specifically Why use it? * What is the general idea of your company about that – it's worth or not? * Anything else you'd like to share? We do not use in our company, but a friend of mine who works at a large company say that they use and works well for them, if employees do not abuse it. They use Yahoo, is a good way to get an immediate response to the questions where you need an immediate response. Work My friend is looking to make sure that is not used for personal matters. Otherwise, it can be very productive. Our company does not use it because the boss thinks everyone used for personal business and then nobody is going to be productive. Hope this helps.
